The Jax Project, a 501c3, was started by Jax Tinsley and his mother Trina Tinsley in September of 2022. Jax learned about the Homeless Camp that was located in North Lawrence. “Mom, why can’t we feed them dinner?” Providing food for those in need was not new to Jax or his mom. Trina and Jax had been providing others with homemade meals for most of Jax’s life. Thanksgiving and Christmas traditions would include making and sharing a big holiday meal together, then portioning up to-go containers. Together they would drive around their community and pass them out. So it came as no surprise to his mother that Jax would offer up such a suggestion. September off 2022, the then 8 1/2 year old boy and his mother, along with a few friends took several roasting pots full of chili and a folding table, and served what would turn out to be the first of many meals at the camp. The following week a Facebook page was created and The Jax Project was born. We now have a team of close to 20 people who serve in many different capacities. Approximately 10k meals have been served to date. We are now serving 4 different encampments. In January of 2024, The Jax Project became The Jax Project Inc. and is now an official 501C3. The Jax Project, serving LOVE with a side of food, since 2022.

Trina Tinsley and Jax were featured in the Lawrence Times by journalist Maya Hodison. The article, titled “Mother and Son Ask Community Members to Join Them at North Lawrence Campsite on Christmas Eve,” is about the Jax Project and our invitation to the Lawrence community to join us Christmas Eve at the North Lawrence support camp to share a meal and spread holiday cheer.
